Safebreaks Devon CIC

We support adults with additional needs across Devon. Clubs, sport, art, partnerships with local places, the things that turn a week into a week, not just time passing.

  1. Why we're here

For a lot of adults with additional needs, the gap isn't formal care. It's the rest of life. Friendship. Things to do on a Tuesday evening. A sport that's actually accessible. Somewhere familiar to drop into. People who know your name.

That's the gap Safebreaks fills. We're not a personal care provider. We're not a residential service. We run activities, social clubs, and partnerships across Newton Abbot and the wider area, alongside support that helps people get more out of the rest of their week.

  2. What we do

A typical week at Safebreaks includes:

    • Monday evening social clubs. Drop in, see who's around, do something or just hang out.
    • Disability football, gym, swimming. Real sport, supported the way each member needs it.
    • Art, photography, fishing. Creative and outdoor activities that aren't just "stimulating". They're things people genuinely want to do.

Beyond the weekly rhythm, there are the bigger things. Monthly discos. The summer fair. And the partnerships, places like Forde Park Community Cafe, where our members aren't visitors, they're regulars.

  3. What we've done so far

Safebreaks has been operating in Devon for over a decade. The current management took over in January 2025 to steady the organisation through a period of change and bring fresh focus to the work. The first year was about getting the basics right. Stable rotas. Predictable staff hours. Sound relationships with members, families, and partner organisations. The kind of quiet operational discipline that makes everything else possible.

We're now in a position where the day-to-day runs smoothly enough that we can plan the next chapter rather than firefight the last one. That's part of why this page exists.

  4. Where we're going

Three priorities for the next twelve months.

Growing the offer. More activities, more partnerships, more days of the week where there's somewhere to go. Where we have a waiting list, that's a problem worth solving.

Investing in the team. Training that goes beyond the regulatory minimum. Time and attention for the people doing the hardest work, so they're set up to do it well.

Improving how we communicate. This website is part of that. A calendar of what's on. Clearer information for families and referrers. A journey log so you can see what we've actually been up to, not what we'd like to claim.
